Middle East Peace Initiative Program Announced for May

Jerusalem, Israel - A Middle East Peace Initiative program in Jerusalem will bring together religious leaders, academics and NGO delegates with the theme of “Interfaith Dialogue and Cooperation for Peace and Development,” May 12-16, 2014. The program will include stimulating and informative briefings on critical issues facing the Middle East and opportunities to visit the holy sites of the Old City and other important venues in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Interfaith Forum: Sensitivity to the Suffering of Others

Kfar Kana, Israel - The UN World Interfaith Harmony Week was noted by the Jerusalem Interfaith Forum for Peace at a special gathering of the forum in the Catholic Melkite church in the Galilee village of Kfar Kana. Twenty-five leaders from various religions, academics and peace activists gathered in the morning of Feb. 5 to discuss the topic: "Sensitivity to the suffering of others."

Jerusalem Peace & Security Forum: The Countries of the Persian Gulf and Their Influence on the Middle East

Haifa, Israel - The Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf were the topic of a Jerusalem Peace and Security Forum meeting held on Dec. 29, 2013, in the Jewish Arab Center of Haifa University. Professor Eliezer Glaubach, the president of the forum, opened the discussion by reminding the audience of the power of economics: After Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip, it developed a commercial relationship with Qatar. But, taking another point of view, since both Israel and the Gulf states have a common enemy in Iran, this might be another path for an unexpected peaceful relations.

Israeli Youth Conduct a Religious Youth Service Project

Religious Youth Service Project Brings International Youth to Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel - A Religious Youth Service project in Jerusalem Dec. 18-22, 2013 brought together 41 participants from 15 nations. People of diverse religions, nations and ethnic backgrounds engaged in a program of interfaith education, leadership training and community service. International and local youth of different faiths toured Jewish, Christian, and Muslim historic and holy sites, heard presentations about the geopolitical realities in the region and participated in a community service project.

Jerusalem Conference Explores Options for Peace and Stability

Jerusalem Peace & Security Forum: Realistic Strategies for Solving the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Jerusalem, Israel - On Dec. 4, 2013, the Israel Peace and Security Forum took up the topic “Realistic Strategies for Solving the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.” Professor Eliezer Glaubach, president of the Jerusalem Peace and Security Forum, and his wife, Rachel, hosted the meeting. Professor Glaubach gave a short historical review: “For thousands of years there has been a conflict over the land of Israel. Many empires were eager to control our region, a land that bridges three continents and is a crossroads of commerce from ​​Mesopotamia to Egypt. The conflicts escalated when it became the Holy Land of the three monotheistic religions.”

Jerusalem, Israel - Twenty-five peace proponents gathered on Nov. 26, 2013, for the Jerusalem Interfaith Forum. Rabbi Dr. Beni Lau, who is well known in Israeli society for his involvement in social rights and religious values, hosted the forum in his Ramban Synagogue. Rabbi Lau is also known in Israel for his "Weekly Torah Portion" lectures which are broadcast by the national television station.

Jerusalem Interfaith Forum: Parity and Equality in the Family and Society

Arugot, Israel - Religious leaders, scholars, peace and social activists gathered on Oct. 21 in the president's office of Achva College for a forum on “Parity and Equality in the Family and Society.” Achva in Hebrew means friendship and brotherhood – a suitable name for a unique college in Israel with a diverse student body including Bedouins, ultra-Orthodox and Ethiopian Jews, some observant and others secular.

Jerusalem Peace & Security Forum: The Crisis in Syria and Its Regional Impact

Jerusalem, Israel - UPF-Israel held a consultation in Jerusalem on the topic of "The Crisis in Syria and Its Regional Impact: Assessing the Prospects for Peace and Stability" on Oct. 16. The date was significant since it was the national Memorial Day for the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who lost his life in the quest for peace.

Jerusalem, Israel - The Jerusalem Peace and Security Forum continued its discussion of Iran on Sept. 30, 2013 from the previous month’s meeting. The forum met at the Impact-SE Institute at the Hebrew University on the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama were meeting in the White House and just four days after Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani addressed the UN General Assembly in New York.

Jerusalem Interfaith Forum: Hosting Ishmael in the Rabbi's Sukkah

Mevaseret-Zion, Israel - On Sept. 24, 2013, during the Jewish holy day of Sukkot, Rabbi Yaakov Luft invited the Jerusalem Interfaith Forum to take place in his Sukkah, or tabernacle. Under the roof of bamboo and palm fronds, with a view of Jerusalem and the Judean hills – even the raindrops were accepted as God's blessing and didn't disturb the warm and flowing conversation among the guests: Jews, Muslims and Druze; religious leaders, scholars and peace activists.

Day of Peace Observed at an Interfaith Forum in Haifa

Haifa, Israel - The UN International Day of Peace was commemorated in Israel by UPF with a conference on September 21 organized in cooperation with the Jewish-Arab Center at Haifa University. The title of the conference was: "The Role of Interfaith Activity in Educating People for Peace."
