Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, Israel - On the morning of Aug. 14, 2013, an interfaith forum of 12 academic scholars, religious leaders and peace activists took place at the Yaacov Herzog Center for Jewish Studies founded by the Religious Kibbutz Movement. The subject of the meeting was: “The role of the Messiah – what is the purpose of his coming, and why does the human heart yearn for him?”

Jerusalem, Israel - The June 14 election in which Hassan Rouhani was elected president of Iran in a landslide victory was the topic of the Jerusalem Peace and Security Forum on Aug. 8. Held at the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the forum met to understand the effect of the election on the future of Iran.

Clergy March for Peace in Old Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel - The Middle East Peace Initiative (MEPI) pilgrims spent their last full day in the Holy Land marching arm in arm through the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem chanting, “Peace, Shalom, Salaam Alaikum. Let’s Bring Peace to the Middle East!” About 200 people gathered at the Jaffa Gate on the west side of the Old City of Jerusalem on the morning of May 18. Archbishop George A. Stallings, chairman of the American Clergy Leadership Conference, prayed before the departure.

Interfaith Pilgrims Visit Jerusalem and Bethlehem

Jerusalem, Israel - The Americans and Europeans who came to Jerusalem for a Middle East Peace Initiative trip commemorating the tenth anniversary of the "Jerusalem Declaration" for interfaith cooperation began their day on May 16 with prayer and testimonies at 6:00 a.m. Imam Regillio Frank Haselhoef of the Netherlands told the group of his thoughts on the previous day: “As we sailed on the Sea of Galilee, I understood our true reality. All humanity is on the same boat; therefore, we have a common responsibility.”

Interfaith Pilgrims Gather in Jerusalem for Peace

Jerusalem, Israel - Faith leaders from diverse traditions descended on the Holy City of Jerusalem on May 14, 2013 as part of the Middle East Peace Initiative and to honor the tenth anniversary of the “Jerusalem Declaration” for peace. Baptists, Pentecostals, Muslims, and Buddhists – both clergy and some laypersons – flew in from Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Austria, as well as Brazil, Suriname, and from a dozen cities in the United States – all eager to experience first-hand the spiritual treasures of this land, to learn, and to offer their prayers and voices for peace.

A listing of programs of the Middle East Peace Initiative (MEPI) from 2003 to 2013. MEPI was launched with an international consultation convened by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace, February 27-March 2, 2003, in Washington, DC, called Beyond Coexistence Toward a New Culture of Peace: Focus on the Middle East. Programs have included peace missions and fact-finding tours, service and youth activities, cultural programs, and conferences.

Program to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the "Jerusalem Declaration" for Interfaith Cooperation

Daliat El-Carmel, Israel - The fifth interreligious forum organized by UPF-Israel  brought together 21 academic and religious leaders, as well as social activists on March 21. Host Sheik Ali Birani invited the forum members to enjoy the warm hospitality at his home, situated at the largest Druze town in Israel, Daliat El Carmel near Haifa. The theme chosen for deliberation was: "The principle of living for the sake of others."
