Interfaith Harmony Week Commemorated in Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel - Celebrating the UN Interfaith Harmony Week, a group of key Ambassadors for Peace gathered in Jerusalem on February 12. Several prominent academics joined the religious leaders in expressing their concern for the current state of affairs in the Middle East and the Korean peninsula.

Jerusalem, Israel - UPF-Israel organized a Jewish-Christian interfaith meeting at the Dormition Church in Jerusalem on the International Day of Peace, September 21. After the meeting, Jewish Ambassadors for Peace helped mediate a dispute between a church representative and a local rabbi.

The doctrine of the brotherhood of man does not start with the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai, nor with Abraham our Patriarch. All men since Adam and Eve were created in the Divine image, and this principle should become a leading principle in the educational attempts of liberal religions. These religions will not negate differences, but will stress the common roots of all of them, starting with the creation of mankind by the holy Creator.

Tel Aviv, Israel - A delegation of UPF-Israel met with the Ambassadors of three African Embassies in Tel Aviv on May 24, a day prior to Africa Day. Secretary General of UPF-Israel, Mr. Jeremy Jordan, explained: "We gave them a certificates recognizing their precious work and to encourage them to help raise up their nations."

Daliet el Carmel, Israel - UPF-Israel honored Israeli government workers who have been promoting interfaith activities during the past four years after attending UPF's International Leadership Conferences and Middle East Peace Initiative events. The event commemorated the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week and promoted the idea of an interreligious council at the UN as well as an interfaith peace council in Israel.

Jerusalem, Israel - Since 2008, members of the Youth Federation for World Peace in Jerusalem have been volunteering to keep the historic Hansen Garden in Jerusalem alive through planting, maintaining, digging, and preservation old cisterns, windows, and so on. This December 24, we once again planted different types of flowers to beautify the garden with freesia, cyclamen, iris, and much more.

Jerusalem, Israel - UPF-Israel hosted people from Ghana and Benin for a Middle East Peace Initiative trip December 16 to 22. Rev. Paterne Zinsou, a sub-regional director of UPF-Africa, brought guests from Ghana and Benin. Among them were a former Minister of Health from Ghana, the Consul of Israel in Benin, and several Christian and Muslim religious leaders.

Daliet El Carmel, Israel - Upon returning from the successful World Assembly held in Korea last October, our Israeli chapter of UPF decided to hold a follow-up reflection meeting. Our host was Sheikh Ali Birani, who invited to his home the three Ambassadors for Peace who participated in the assembly: Sheikh Jaber Mansur (Druze imam of Usfia), Sheikh Samir Asi (Muslim imam of the second largest mosque in Israel, at Acco), and Father Dmitri Mussa (Greek Catholic leader of the town of Maker).
