The creative and performing arts have unique capacities to touch people's hearts, and UNESCO recognizes the broad potential of arts in promoting a transition from a "culture of war" to a "culture of peace."

UNESCO promotes a "culture of peace," which it defines as a set of values, attitudes, modes of behavior, and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals, groups, and nations. UPF envisions a culture of peace rooted in the awareness that all people are part of one human family under God.
