Lima Mosque Hosts Interfaith Meeting

Lima, Peru - The Christian Ministers Alliance and the Islamic Association of Peru joined together on March 9 under the banner "the uniqueness of God" to share the vision of each faith. The Ambassador for Palestine in Peru and Ecuador also spoke as well as a priest from the Greek Orthodox church.

Nigerians Remember Holocaust and Genocide Victims

Abuja, Nigeria - For UPF-Nigeria to commemorate on February 3 the UN Day to Remember the Holocaust and Genocide Victims was viewed by Ambassadors for Peace and other guests as “a welcome and pertinent effort and activity by the Universal Peace Federation, not only to remember Auschwitz and the Rwandan, Sudanese, and Bosnian experiences but also to sound a clear warning to many other nations (notably in Africa) who are engaged in ethnic, tribal, racial, and religious strife and violence."

Jerusalem Interfaith Forum: Models of Interfaith Respect

Acre, Israel - A group of 25 academic and religious leaders as well as social activists gathered in the second largest mosque in Israel (after Al-Aqsa), the Aljazar Mosque in Acre, for an interfaith dialogue on January 28. The ancient port city was built on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the northern part of Israel. Thirty percent of Acre's inhabitants are Muslims, living peacefully side by side with the Jewish population. This successful model is largely attributed to the warm personal relationships between the two prominent religious leaders of both communities, the chief imam and the chief rabbi of the city.

Ambassadors for Peace Education in Southern Nepal

Tackling current issues head-on, UPF-Nepal held two education programs in southern Nepal, in Itahari and Biratnagar, January 29 and 30. Addressing the concerns about declining moral values, the theme for each event was “The Role of the Family in Nation-Building.” Three presentations were given at each event.

UN Secretary-General's Message for Interfaith Harmony Week

New York, USA - For billions of people around the world, faith is an essential foundation of life. It provides strength in times of difficulty and an important sense of community. The vast majority of people of faith live in harmony with their neighbours, whatever their creed, but each religion also harbours a strident minority prepared to assert fundamentalist doctrines through bigotry and extreme violence.

Winter Play Football for Peace Tournament in Moscow

Moscow, Russia - The winter Play Football for Peace tournament took place on the open ground in the yard of House 61 on Lyublinskaya Street in Moscow on February 2. This municipal playground is well-known in the district, being a favorite place of local enthusiasts who keep it in perfect order even during the unstable winter weather.

Holocaust Remembrance Day Observed in Lusaka

Lusaka, Zambia - The United Nations Information Centre in Lusaka organized a commemoration of  Holocaust Memorial Day on January 25 at their Hall. More than 100 guests attended, among them UPF representatives. The theme of this year was “Rescue during the Holocaust: The Courage to Care.”

Religious Youth Service Advances Sustainable Peace in Sri Lanka

Puttlam District, Sri Lanka - In the ongoing process of helping the government and people of Sri Lanka reconcile communities and heal the wounds of civil war, Religious Youth Service organized a project in a northwestern Sri Lanka village  where Muslim civilians found safe haven during the civil war. The 40  participants and staff from five religious traditions spent the week of December 15-21 in Kalpitiya and Mahawewa working with local villagers and skilled workers to build a new community center and other educational activities.
