UPF-Nigeria Ambassadors for Peace Launch Campaign for Year of National Unity

Abuja, Nigeria - As Nigeria prepares to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the colonial amalgamation of the nation in 1914, UPF-Nigeria launched a national campaign on Dec. 12 advocating for the proclamation of year 2014 as a Year for National Unity and urging all Nigerians to work toward the unity of the nation ridden by religious and ethnic barriers.

UPF Office of Education and Development Hosts African First Ladies

Las Vegas, USA - Delegations from Mali, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau visited Las Vegas in 2013 to discuss concepts related to peace and conflict resolution, study UPF's principles of peace and experience the area's wonders of nature and human creation. In the "Shining City," religious, political, business and educational leaders forged relationships with local dignitaries, academics and business leaders that can have a significant impact on their countries.

Promoting a New Paradigm for Sustainable Peace in Virginia

Richmond, Virginia, USA - Leaders in Richmond, Virginia gathered to welcome UPF's proposal for "Sustainable Peace in our Nation and World" on Nov. 19, 2013. The event was co-hosted with AdvanTech, a non-profit organization working in conjunction with the Economic Department Authority of the City of Richmond to promote economic development in the Richmond area.

Washington DC Forum: Transnational Crime and Gang Violence

Washington DC, USA - "Transnational Crime and Gang Violence" was the topic of a Dec. 11 forum organized by UPF's Office of Peace and Security Affairs in Washington, DC. Policymakers are coming to recognize the need for a paradigm shift to look at the root causes of this complex problem and to build an integrative and comprehensive approach which brings together action elements at all levels of society: community, state, national, and international.

Russians Put Together 2020 Road Map to Develop Volunteerism

Moscow, Russia - How to stimulate volunteerism was the main topic for about 200 representatives from Russian NGOs, businesses and government who met at the 10th All-Russia Conference on Volunteerism. The conference, titled "Development Strategy for Volunteerism in Russia—2020 Road Map,” was held on Nov. 11, in the Russian Federation Civic Chamber building in Moscow.

Promoting a Rapprochement of Cultures in Ukraine

Volunteers from Japan and South Korea visited Ukraine in November 2013 at the invitation of the Universal Peace Federation. The purpose of the delegation's stay in Ukraine was to take part in international volunteer activities, initiate charitable projects and meet volunteers in various cities of Ukraine. With the opening of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022) established by the UN General Assembly, the visit was also an opportunity to build bridges of friendship with students in many universities and participate in cultural events.

UPF-Russia Honors UN Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures

Moscow, Russia - About 95 people gathered for a conference on "Russia towards the UN International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures" held in Moscow’s National Hotel Dec. 21. Scholars, government officials and NGO leaders proposed ways to work together during the coming Year of Culture declared by the Russian Federation in a framework of promoting a culture of volunteerism, family culture and a culture of peace.

UPF-Ghana Holds End-of-Year Assembly

Accra, Ghana - UPF-Ghana held its annual  end-of-year assembly in Accra, Ghana on Dec. 17. Members of UPF-Ghana's Presiding Council and National Peace Council were introduced to the Ambassadors for Peace gathering and UPF-Ghana's Excellence Award was presented to the Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation.
