UPF-Ghana Holds End-of-Year Assembly

Accra, Ghana - UPF-Ghana held its annual  end-of-year assembly in Accra, Ghana on Dec. 17. Members of UPF-Ghana's Presiding Council and National Peace Council were introduced to the Ambassadors for Peace gathering and UPF-Ghana's Excellence Award was presented to the Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation.

Albania National Peace Council Forges a Vision for the New Year

Prizren, Kosovo - After listening to reports from local peace council meetings throughout Albania, UPF-Albania's National Peace Council elected new new leaders at its Nov. 16 and 17 assembly in Prizren, a historic city in the neighboring Republic of Kosovo whose population is mostly Albanian. Rev. Young Shik Ahn, chairman of UPF-Europe, urged Ambassadors for Peace to “keep [the UPF] vision constantly in your hearts as you go about your work of healing the wounds of this nation."

UK Peace Council Hears Updates on UPF-UK's Peace Initiatives

London, UK - UPF-UK convened its annual Peace Council meeting on Dec. 7 in its Lancaster Gate headquarters to review progress in its peace initiatives during the year. The day included sessions on values, activities promoting peace, humanitarian efforts and a Youth UPF concert to raise funds for a peace project in Jerusalem.

UPF Chapters Hold Forums on Human Rights Day

UPF chapters in Burkina Faso, the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Peru and Russia organized forums in honor of Human Rights Day, Dec. 10. Human Rights Day 2013 celebrated the anniversary of establishing the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and this year's theme was 20 Years: Working for Your Rights.

Retired Military Generals Launch Asian Peace and Unity Corps in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand - Retired chiefs of staff from the armed forces of Thailand, the Philippines, India and Nepal joined 38 active and retired generals from 13 Asian nations to launch the Asian Peace and Unity Corps in Bangkok, Thailand, on Dec. 13, 2013.

International Human Solidarity Day Observed in Benin

Cotonou, Benin - UPF-West Africa organized two events to celebrate UN International Human Solidarity Day. "The Responsibility of Ambassadors for Peace for Building a World of Peace and Solidarity" was the theme of a program on Dec. 21 under the sponsorship of the Benin Government Minister of Family and National Solidarity, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the UN Representative and Resident in Benin. A second celebration took place in Ouidah, the historical capital of Benin, sponsored by the mayor, in cooperation with other mayors.

African Regional Director Visits Angola and a UPF Conference

Luanda, Angola - UPF-Africa Regional Director Dr. Katsumi Otsuka made his first visit to Angola from Nov. 7 to 11, 2013, on a visit that included a UPF conference and visits to several Ambassadors for Peace.

‘We Were Born to Shine’: UPF-Argentina Marks International Volunteer Day 2013

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Under the theme "Let's Join in Saying Thanks," UPF-Argentina celebrated the UN International Day of Volunteers at the Peace Embassy in Buenos Aires on Dec. 5, sponsored jointly with the UN Information Center of Argentina and Uruguay.
