Taipei, Taiwan - Right after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, well over a hundred nations offered their support to the devastated areas and their people, but Taiwan’s was outstanding with its immediate dispatch of rescue teams and donation of about 20 billion yen. As an expression of gratitude, 20 Japanese Ambassadors for Peace traveled to Taiwan on October 11 to build personal connections with their counterparts.

Multan, Pakistan - Floods resulting from monsoon rains this year have killed 500 people and left nearly 6,500 injured across Pakistan, and the Society for the Promotion of Education and Awareness is seeking funds to provide 600 families with food, 60 families with shelter, and 3,000 people with medical care in the Southern Punjab.

October 24 is the anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations, and the UN General Assembly encourages commemorations of the day "devoted to making known to the peoples of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations and to gaining their support for" its work.
