The creative and performing arts have unique capacities to touch people's hearts, and UNESCO recognizes the broad potential of arts in promoting a transition from a "culture of war" to a "culture of peace." UPF's arts and cultural programs bring together creators of music, art, film, and poetry that foster the oneness of humanity. A number of UPF chapters organize annual programs that promote a culture of peace:
  • Poetry contests (Argentina, San Marino)
  • Colors of Peace Festival (Canada)
  • Christmas festivals and concerts (Europe)
  • Music and film festivals (Russia)
  • Japanese Tea Ceremonies (USA)

UNESCO has been promoting a "culture of peace," which it defines as a set of values, attitudes, modes of behavior, and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals, groups, and nations. UPF envisions a culture of peace rooted in the awareness that all people are part of one human family under God.
