Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice.

South Caucasus Peace Initiative Print E-mail

The South Caucasus Peace Initiative embodies aspects of three broader issues: (1) the interreligious dimension of the Middle East conflict, mirrored in Muslim Azerbaijan and neighboring Christian Armenia; (2) the ideological dimension of the North/South Korea conflict, reflected in the Georgia/Russia struggle which is, in a way, about different concepts of democracy; and (3) the widespread social problems created by years of conflict related to the UN Millennium Development Goals.

The situation in the South Caucasus, especially after the war between Russia and Georgia in 2008, still threatens international security and causes suffering.

Through people-to-people diplomacy, the South Caucasus Peace Initiative builds understanding among diverse groups. It also promotes collaboration among governmental and non-governmental (including faith-based) organizations and the private sector.
