Athens, Greece – At the initiative of the Saranda Regional Peace Council in Albania, UPF-Albania organized a conference on the theme "Positive Models that Inspire Peace" on November 4, 2023. The event took place in Athens at the Novus Hotel, with about 100 participants, including Ambassadors for Peace, leaders of Albanian associations in Greece, activists and peace lovers.
Speakers at the event included Amb. Luela Hajdaraga, ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Greece; Dr. Artemisa Malo, deputy minister for Europe and foreign affairs of the Republic of Albania; Dr. Katsumi Otsuka, chairman of UPF-Europe and Middle East; Dr. Giuseppe Cali, president of UPF for southern Europe; and Mr. Kostas Askunis, mayor of Kalithea.
The event was moderated by the well-known actor and Ambassador for Peace Mr. Carnation Shena. After greetings and messages from special guests, and after a presentation on UPF activities and a video on the five-year journey of the Saranda Peace Council, six participants were honored with the title Ambassador for Peace.
The awardees included Amb. Hajdaraga and Dr. Malo, as well as the historian and archeologist Z. Pirro Nazi; president of Intermedica Company Dr. Vasil Llajo; psychologist Znj. Mirela Kallanxhi of the University of Athens; and entrepreneur Z. Ilia Zero.
Leaders of the Saranda Regional Peace Council, Chairman Thoma Nika and Vice President Hamdi Pervizi, as well as Anastas Murati, were recognized and thanked for organizing the event in Athens.
