Danglin, South Korea – About 800 people attended an event hosted by UPF-Korea on the theme “Korean Reunification: Our Destiny,” on October 12, 2024, in the auditorium of Dangjin City Hall. The event included an appointment ceremony for new members of the National Committee on Preparation for Reunification, and a special lecture on Korean reunification. Participants included over 300 members, executives, and heads of 17 organizations related to the reunification movement in Dangjin.

Following a pre-event performance by the Silver Orchestra, the moderator, Professor Lee Kang-il, opened the event. The program included guest introductions by President Na Gi-bok of the Peace Ambassadors Association, an opening declaration by Co-chairman Hong Seong-bok, the national anthem, an opening speech by Co-chairman Lee Hong-geun, congratulatory remarks by Mayor Oh Seong-hwan, City Council Chairperson Seo Yeong-hoon, and Chairman Lee Jong-hyun of the Dangjin Council of the National Unification Advisory Council as well as an encouragement speech by Mr. Park Hyeong-jin, UPF chair of Daejeon and Chungnam.

Next, new members of the committee were presented with appointment certificates. Then Dr. Yang Chang-shik, international chairman of UPF, gave a lecture in which he explained the historical context of the division of the Korean Peninsula and the reasons behind South Korea's current status as a free democratic state. He also spoke about national economic growth and the impact reunification would have on the peninsula, as well as the lifelong efforts of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon for this cause.

One participant pointed out that the event was highly relevant given the current state of affairs in South Korea, adding that he was deeply moved by the strong foundation and achievements of Rev. and Mrs. Moon. Another leader voiced the opinion that all citizens should have access to this lecture.

Before the main event, the 800 attendees filled out applications to join the National Committee  on Preparation for Reunification. Their appointment certificates will be distributed later through their organizations and the dean of the Senior Citizens' College.
