Delhi Interfaith Speech Contest Opens Students’ Minds


Delhi, India – On the occasion of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, UPF-India, in collaboration with the Peace Club of Mata Sundri College for Women (MSCW), University of Delhi, organized an inter-college speech competition on the theme “Interfaith Harmony: Path to World Peace.” The event was held on February 6, 2025, at the Seminar Hall of Mata Sundri College, with enthusiastic participation from over 100 students, academicians and distinguished guests.


To set the tone for the event, an Interfaith Prayer Song was presented by the Gandhi Study Circle of MSCW, emphasizing the spirit of unity and peace. The welcome address was delivered by associate professor Dr. Neetu Sharma, who warmly greeted all participants, guests and judges.


The competition saw 22 students from 12 different colleges within the university passionately articulating their thoughts on interfaith harmony and its significance in building a peaceful world. Each participant brought unique perspectives, showcasing their oratory skills and depth of understanding of the subject.


As the special guest speaker, Mr. Krishna Adhikari, secretary general of UPF-India, provided an insightful presentation on UPF’s global interfaith work and introduced the work of UPF-India, highlighting nationwide Peace Club activities.


After the series of thought-provoking speeches, the panel of distinguished judges, including Dr. Simerpreet Kaur, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, and Ms. Hema Sen, evaluated the participants. They considered clarity, content, confidence and presentation. The results were announced, followed by an award ceremony at which the top speakers were given cash prizes and certificates.


The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Moitri Dey, the main coordinator of the program, who expressed gratitude to the organizing committee, guests, judges, and participants for making the event a grand success.


At the end of the program Mr. Krishna Adhikari met the principal of the college, Professor Harpreet Kaur, at her office, as she was unable to join the program due to urgent official work. He presented a token of appreciation for her support in celebrating this significant UN commemorative day at her college.


The interfaith speech competition helped to create an environment of dialogue, understanding and cooperation among the students, reinforcing the importance of interfaith harmony as a path to world peace. UPF-India continues its commitment to promoting global peace through such impactful initiatives.
