Stockholm, Sweden – A Peace Road event in Stockholm, organized by UPF-Sweden on August 11, 2024, drew 40 participants, both youthful and elderly. The route led past the embassies of many countries, including former enemy nations, to symbolize a peaceful connection between them.
The walk started at the memorial stone for Sweden's contribution to the Korean War. It is located in the major diplomatic area, where the embassies of the United States, Israel, South Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Hungary, among others, are located.
From there, we walked 1.5 kilometers along the shoreline, to take a one-hour commuter ferry ride across a canal to another embassy area on the island of Lidingo. There, we walked a further 2.5 kilometers to the DPRK (North Korean) Embassy. With the permission of the embassy staff, we took a commemorative group picture at the embassy.
We concluded with a much-appreciated picnic pizza party.
One important outcome of the event was that we could reestablish good contact with the DPRK embassy. In the past, we have had a relatively close and uncomplicated relationship with the embassy staff. However, we lost that connection due to the Covid-19 pandemic, when they made extensive personnel changes and even changed telephone numbers. Thanks to the Peace Road project, which they were already familiar with, we were able to reconnect. As we have seen before, they appreciate the work of UPF and our founders.
