Apia, Samoa – The International Association of Arts and Culture for Peace (IAACP) Oceania was launched amidst the vibrant celebration of Australia Day at the Tiapapata Art Centre in Apia, on January 26, 2024. Participants in Samoa were joined by others across Oceania by Zoom, fostering global connectivity.
Distinguished guests included Mrs. Claire McGeechan, Australia’s deputy high commissioner in Samoa; Rev. Pelenato Liufau, principal of the Leulolumoega Fou School of Fine Arts; and Rev. Greg Stone, chairman of UPF-Oceania. Other attendees included Maestro David Eaton of IAACP International; Rev. Maugana'i Liusuavai Sialaoa Seti Suafa, IAACP-Oceania coordinator; and Ms. Mee Hwa Atimalala, president of the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) Oceania.
The launch included an exhibition of works by Australian artists Kim Roth and Barbara Vondracek, as well as local talents including Moelotoleulalemamae Tiatia from the Leulumoega Fou School of Fine Arts and Leilani Vete from the Tiapapata Art Gallery. The event demonstrated the profound impact of art in promoting peace and cultural exchange.
This landmark event, supported by key stakeholders and featuring exceptional artistic talent, marks a significant milestone in IAACP's mission to foster peace through the universal language of art across the Oceania region.
