Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Hon. Tan Sri Johari Bin Abdul, speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, has vowed his support to the proposed Asia Pacific Union Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (APUPSC) to be launched during the World Summit 2025 in Seoul, Korea, organized by UPF International. During a meeting with UPF’s high-level delegation, led by International Chairman Dr. Charles S. Yang, in Kuala Lumpur on January 13, 2025, Speaker Johari said that he is happy to learn about this new initiative and extended his unreserved support for its success.
Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the APUPSC, briefed the speaker on details of the conference and invited him to be one of its founding members. Speaker Johari said he would be honored to accept the proposal. Dr. Yang explained that APUPSC will bring dozens of speakers and senate presidents together for the cause of peace in the Asia Pacific, the Korean Peninsula, and the world. Dr. Yang also discussed with Speaker Johari various aspects of the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Mr. Peng Keong Lai, secretary general of UPF-Malaysia, also attended the meeting.
Speaker Johari has participated in UPF activities in the past. He presided over and addressed a program of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) at the Malaysian Parliament on July 2, 2024.
The UPF delegation also met separately with Malaysian Senator Mohd Hatta Ramli for a cordial discussion on issues related to regional peace.
