Chisinau, Moldova – This year UPF-Moldova marked the International Day of Peace through a variety of activities. In the early morning on September 21, 2023, Mr. Andrei Esanu, secretary general of UPF-Moldova, was invited to a national radio channel to talk about the Day of Peace and peacebuilding.
On the same day, he was invited to a conference on peace organized by Mrs. Erica Zucec, a UPF peace ambassador, and supported by UN Women. The conference theme was “Together for Peace: Women as Ambassadors for Peace.”
In her opening speech, Mrs. Zucec testified about her trip to UPF’s World Summit 2020 in South Korea and how impressed she was by the strong desire of the Korean people for peace and unification. More than 50 women attended the conference, which concluded with a speech by Mr. Esanu. Also at that event, the Peace Embassy was declared a Peace Hub.
Another impressive activity, in which UPF-Moldova partnered with the Cyclists Club, was the Open Cycling Championship of Chisinau city. It was the second time this event was held on the International Day of Peace, and it doubled as a Peace Road event. A big Peace Road banner was exhibited along the route, and small flags were carried by the participants representing the club. In his opening remarks, the president of the club spoke about the importance of peacebuilding and their partnership with UPF.
