Lima, Peru – With support from the office of Congressman José Arriola Tueros, UPF-Peru celebrated World Interfaith Harmony Week on February 20, 2025, at the Congress of the Republic of Peru. The program was organized by the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) Peru, and took place in the José Faustino Sánchez Carrión Auditorium.
The audience of 200 was welcomed by Dr. Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru, who sent a message for the occasion through a video from London.
The first keynote speaker was Bishop Jesus Manuel Mejia Quiroz, president of IAPD-Peru, who spoke about dialogue and cooperation between religions to promote harmony and development.
Pastor Orestes Sanchez, secretary general of IAPD-Peru, shared about the great biblical commandments to love God above all things and to love your neighbor as yourself; in other words, living for the good of others.
Monsignor Oscar Jose Guerrero Cornejo, bishop of the city of Piura, spoke on the topic “Peace and the Presence of God.”
Following these speeches, religious leaders and secretary generals of the UPF associations took part in a Blessed Water Ceremony for Life and Peace.
Finally, to conclude the uplifting event, 40 new ambassadors for peace were appointed.
