Tirana, Albania – To mark the 16th anniversary of Kosovo's independence, UPF-Albania’s Tirana Peace Council organized an event at the Balkan Peace Embassy in Tirana, entitled, "Independent Kosovo, a Success Story for Peace," on February 24, 2024. Nearly 200 guests, dignitaries, ambassadors for peace and friends of UPF filled the conference hall.
The event was moderated by Mr. Defrim Methasani, a well-known journalist and chairman of the Tirana Peace Council. Respected dignitaries from Albania and Kosovo – including former President of Albania Mr. Alfred Moisiu (2002-2007); former President of Kosovo Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu (2006-2010); Ambassador of Kosovo to Albania Mr. Skender Durmishi; and historian and researcher Dr. Pallumb Xhufi – participated and gave meaningful messages.
Wonderful performances by two famous artists and singers, Mr. Ilir Shaiqi from Kosovo and Mrs. Liri Rasha from Albania, leant the event a festive note. A highlight of the program was the presentation of the "Person of the Year 2023" award by the Tirana Peace Council for special contributions as an ambassador for peace. Former President Moisiu presented the award to well-known doctor and humanist Dr. Sali Kurti.
After a presentation on UPF’s national and international activities, a ceremony was held to appoint 11 new ambassadors for peace from Kosovo and Albania. This ceremony included the appointment by President Moisiu of Mr. Ismet Krasniqi from Kosovo, president of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, as an ambassador for peace.
