Gangtok, India – In honor of the UN International Day of Peace, UPF-India and the University Peace Club of ICFAI University, Sikkim, organized a special event at the University Auditorium Hall on September 20, 2024, on the theme designated by the United Nations, ”Creating a Culture of Peace.”
The chief guest for the event was Hon. G. M. Gurung, former minister of the Government of Sikkim and chairman of UPF-Sikkim. Also in attendance were the deputy registrar of the university, Dr. Sandhya Pant, representing the vice chancellor. Other attendees included teachers, Peace Club members, a Buddhist monk, and students, about 200 people in all.
Students presented moving songs and poems on the topic of peace. Hon. Gurung highlighted the importance of the initiative by UPF and the Peace Club, and congratulated ICFAI University for establishing an active Peace Club. He suggested that such clubs should be set up in all the colleges and universities of Sikkim, and said that youth must be encouraged to contribute to the betterment of society.
In conclusion, Hon. Gurung presented certificates of appreciation to the student performers.
