Tirana, Albania – In celebration of the 95th birthday of H.E. Alfred Moisiu, former president of Albania, UPF-Albania and the Tirana Regional Peace Council organized an event on January 25, 2025 on the theme "Alfred Moisiu – A Life in the Service of the Nation and of Peace." Attending were about 150 dignitaries, UPF executives from the European and international chapters, and ambassadors for peace.
In the conference room of the Embassy of Peace, Mr. Moisiu was honored for his extraordinary work in promoting the growth and development of UPF in Albania and the Balkans. Special recognition and gratitude were given for his help in building the Embassy of Peace in Tirana.
Mr. Defrim Methasani, president of UPF-Albania, served as moderator. Messages of gratitude to the former president were offered by several dignitaries. These included:
H.E. Filip Vujanovic, former president of Montenegro (2003-2018) and incumbent president of the Podgorica Club; H.E. Fatmir Sejdiu, former president of Kosovo (2006-2010), who attended remotely; Hon. Vilson Ahmeti, former prime minister of Albania; Dr. Song Yong Cheon, international president of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU); Dr. Michael Balcomb, European president of UPF; Sheh Hysen Hormova, president of the Halveti Tarikat in Albania; Mr. Manjola Vasmatics, president of FFWPU Albania; Mr. Bajram Ibraj, former president of UPF-Albania (2011-2015); and Mr. Castriot Selita, chairman of the Tirana Regional Peace Council. The famous singer Grand Master Hysni Zela entertained all those present with two songs from his repertoire.
The last part of the event was a ceremony recognizing five public figures as ambassadors for peace. The recipients were: Dr. Mehmet Pristina; Prof. Greta Angels; Prof. Claudette Dibra; Mr. Haki Chako; and Mrs. Maria Solis.
