Munich, Germany—UPF and an affiliated organization held an interfaith discussion on the topic “What Is Truth?”
The Munich chapters of UPF and Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) jointly organized the online event on June 24, 2023, which attracted more than 30 participants from various religious communities.
The keynote speech was delivered by the Roman Catholic pastor and retired family therapist Manfred Hanglberger from the city of Regensburg. The co-speaker was Wolf Osterheld, who presented various thoughts on this topic from the viewpoint of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), another organization that is affiliated with UPF. The moderator was Magda Haugen, president of WFWP-Germany.
Following a brief presentation of the goals of UPF by co-host Robert Bentele, the leader of UPF in Munich, Pastor Hanglberger set out his points in a very profound yet easily understandable fashion: truth in a rational (scientific) relationship to the world, truth in a spiritual relationship to the world, and lastly the difficult problem of finding out what truth is.
Mr. Osterheld spoke of how God’s truth unfolds in history, as well as how the heart of truth lies in its realization in true love. Thus, Jesus could state that he is the Truth and the Life.
A lively exchange ensued, in which the audience posed their questions to the speakers. The atmosphere was very animated so that we hardly felt that our encounter was taking place virtually.
A recording (in German) of the event is available on the Facebook page of WFWP-Germany (Frauenföderation für Frieden e.V. Deutschland).
