Reykjavik, Iceland—The newly emerged volcano Litli-Hrútur was the destination of UPF-Iceland’s 2023 Peace Road event.
Ambassadors for Peace, UPF supporters and friends made their way on a 15-kilometer march to the volcano, located in southwestern Iceland, on July 21—less than two weeks after the volcano erupted on July 10.
It was like traveling back in time. This eruption was the third within a volcanic system since 2021—and the largest!
Next door are other systems that have affected each other in the past. One can assume a volcanic age of about 200 years, although there may be interruptions.
This Peace Road 2023 event sheds light on the origins of all life on earth, and UPF-Iceland wants to remind us of a sustainable and respectful treatment of nature.
UPF founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon compared Iceland to a mother’s womb. This was not only a naturalistic view but also is in perfect line with scientific understanding:
Once upon a time, the earth was a ball of ice. Volcanoes broke through the ice shield and became life enforcers. The climate change that was triggered became the origin of life today.
Therefore, volcanoes even form the origin of all roads and transport routes. If the earth is the mother, then volcanoes are her womb and the volcanic island called Iceland is at the forefront, even if this is a geological baby.
