Sidon, Lebanon—Thirteen local leaders of Christian and Muslim faiths gathered to share their favorite Scriptures.
UPF-Lebanon organized the interreligious meeting on June 23, 2023, in one of Sidon’s best known and most beautiful restaurants.
The key collaborators were Sheikh Mohamad Abou Zeid, an Ambassador for Peace and judge of the Sunna Court in Sidon, and Sheikh Sohaib Al Habli.
UPF-Lebanon President Thomas Schellen gave the opening remarks and a brief introduction about UPF and its founders, Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han Moon. He spoke about UPF’s interfaith work and read aloud some of Father Moon’s words.
Marilyn Angelucci, the UPF regional co-chair for the Middle East, also spoke about the founders’ vision and their great investment in establishing a worldwide culture of peace and prosperity through various initiatives and educational programs—especially through promoting interreligious harmony and collaboration.
Following these presentations, all the religious leaders offered their thoughts. Reading from their Holy Scriptures, the Quran and the Bible, each presented some words that really resonate with them.
They also spoke about strengthening harmony and collaboration among religious leaders for the sake of strengthening the society.
The interreligious gathering concluded with dinner.
All the religious leaders were very pleased with the event and are looking forward to join future interreligious gatherings held by UPF.
