Chisinau, Moldova—UPF held an intercultural festival highlighting seven cultures that have a presence in Moldova. Forty-three young people came to the Chisinau Peace Embassy on February 12, 2023, to represent their culture in a program that also honored the United Nations’ World Interfaith Harmony Week. The main purpose of this event was to promote peace through intercultural dialogue.
The guests learned many interesting things about the cultures of Moldova, Bulgaria, Gagauzia (a Turkic-speaking region of Moldova), Ukraine, India, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. They got to know various unique aspects of the songs, dances, poetry, games and traditional dishes from each of the represented areas.
The event was organized by UPF-Moldova together with the Moldovan chapters of two affiliated organizations, Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) and Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU).
The United Nations proposed World Interfaith Harmony Week to be celebrated worldwide during the first week of February, recognizing the imperative need for dialogue among different faiths and religions to enhance mutual understanding, harmony and cooperation among people. The General Assembly encourages all states to spread the message of interfaith harmony.
The program was coordinated by Andrei Eșanu, the leader of UPF-Moldova.
