Dharan, Nepal—An interfaith cooperation program organized by the Sunsari chapter of UPF-Nepal was held at the Hotel Star East in the enchanting city of Dharan on September 20, 2023 in observance of the UN International Day of Peace.
Mr. Mohan Shrestha, president of UPF–Sunsari, set the tone for the day in his remarks in which he emphasized the importance of fostering harmony and religious tolerance within society. He articulated that these values are essential steps towards achieving and underscored the pivotal role that religious leaders can and should play in advancing world peace.
One of the program's most poignant moments was when religious leaders from various faiths joined hands to offer their prayers and sacred recitations and poured water into a vessel, symbolizing the unity of different religions. Among the leaders were Surya Bhandari, representing the Hindu faith; guru Adhiagya Gauranga Das, an emissary of the Vedic Sanatan religion; Nani Maiya Didijyu, a luminary from Brahm Kumari Raj Yoga Seva Center; Buddhist guru Jigme Gurung; Dinesh Limbu, an advocate of Kirat Dharma; Christian pastor Mahesh Rajwanshi; and Prembad Guru Suman Rai. Mrs. Didijyu, speaking on behalf of the religious leaders, stressed that harmony among faiths is not only desirable but essential for the well-being of humanity.
The chief guest was Mr. Raj Kumar Karki, editor-in-chief of the Blast Times Daily, who delivered a message about the need for religious harmony to maintain mutual understanding among peoples and peace in society and the critical role that media plays in promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding.

Other attendees included Ambassadors for Peace, media professionals and civil society representatives from Dharan and surrounding areas.
