Chonburi, Thailand—UPF–Thailand commemorated the UN International Day of Peace 2023 with readings of peace messages and a one minute prayer for peace that were held simultaneously throughout the country on September 21. More than 2,500 organizations and institutions and more than 1 million people participated in the event, which was organized in partnership with the Eastern College of Technology (E.Tech).
Collaborators and supporters of the program included Thailand’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior and four branches of the military; the Royal Thai Police; educational institutions under the Primary Education Area Office; the Office of the Secondary Education Area Office; the Office of the Basic Education Commission; the Office of the Higher Education Commission; and other public as well as private organizations.
Peace messages from the Prime Minister of Thailand H.E. Settha Thaveesil and the President of UPF-Thailand Gen. Thoedsak Marome, as well as the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ message for the day, were read. The message from H.E. Thaveesil was read by the Deputy Governor of Chonburi province Mr. Amnart Charoensri, which was followed by a message from Gen. Marome. UPF-Asia Pacific Vice President Dr. Lek Thaveetermsakul read the UN Secretary-General’s message and E.Tech student Mr. Chayathorn Chingchaichana read the Thai translation of the message.
The program concluded with a one minute prayer for peace in the family, community, society, nation and world.
