Birmingham, United Kingdom—UPF was invited to speak on “Interfaith in Action” to a gathering of about 300 Sikhs.
The group of Namdhari Sikhs had gathered to welcome their spiritual leader, Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji, on a visit to the United Kingdom. Dr. David and Patricia Earle, the leaders of UPF in the U.K.’s Midlands area, had been invited by the national director of the Namdhari Sikhs, Kuldip Singh Ubhi, a good friend of UPF.
The meeting took place on August 26, 2023, at the New Bingley Hall function suite in Birmingham. In addition to the Sikhs, the audience included representatives of five major faith traditions, as well as a number of different organizations.
Birmingham Lord Mayor Chaman Lal and his wife were also in attendance, as were two deputy lord lieutenants representing His Majesty King Charles. After the mayor and the lord lieutenants offered their speeches, David Earle spoke for 10 minutes on the topic of interfaith from a UPF perspective. Kuldip Singh Ubhi then recalled his experience with UPF. In particular, he mentioned the “miracle” of World Summit 2020: the fact that none of the thousands of delegates caught the Covid virus, even though it was breaking out around the world.
He also spoke of an earlier visit to the Unificationists’ Cheongpyeong training center in Korea, and the beautiful spiritual atmosphere of the Cheon Shim Won prayer hall, where he saw many young people praying together.
Later, David and Patricia Earle met briefly with Satguru Uday Singh and offered the possibility of him attending a future World Summit.
All in all, it was a very meaningful and heart-warming experience, together with so many inspiring people.
