Montevideo, Uruguay – UPF-Uruguay hosted a seminar on the theme “Peace, Leadership and Character Education” in the conference room of the beautiful Quinta de Berro national historical monument on April 6, 2024. About 30 participants joined the program, which outlined the role and mission of UPF peace ambassadors.
Guests included representatives of the Catholic Church, the director of a local health center, representatives of NGOs, and academics from different fields.
The MC was Mrs. Katerin Moyano, a member of Youth and Students for Peace (YSP- Uruguay). The program began with a musical performance by a group of local artists, who created a friendly and open atmosphere that was maintained throughout the event.
Prof. Laura Doutour, writer and ambassador for peace, gave the welcoming address. She expressed her view that, in a world dominated by conflict, communities must live by universal principles and virtues if there is any hope of finding peace.
After an introductory video about UPF, Mr. Edgardo Martinez Zimarioff, director of the International Coaching Federation, gave a presentation on “Leadership Founded on Values and Virtues.” He stressed the importance of leaders who practice ethical principles.
The second presentation, “The Family: School of Love and Sustenance of Peace” was given by Rev. George Tsusaka, president of Family Federation for World Peace (Uruguay). He described the family as the source of peace education, where one learns different spheres of love, including filial love, fraternal love, conjugal love and parental love.
The third presentation, “The Mission of Ambassadors for Peace,” was given by Mr. Raul Rey, president of UPF-Uruguay. He highlighted the principle of living for the sake of others as the basic moral practice to ensure a healthy, free and peaceful society. He also said that united and loving families that practice true love, genuine respect for human rights, and altruistic service, are the most effective force for peace.
At the end of the program, a dozen new ambassadors for peace were appointed.
